Lagos Baby Factory Busted: 18 Pregnant Women Rescued, Newborns Sold for N1 Million

A shocking baby factory has been uncovered in Lagos, Nigeria, where newborns were being sold for up to N1.8 million. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) raided the facility in Badagry, rescuing 18 pregnant women and 10 children, and arresting two suspects, Joy Okeke and Raphael Agwu

The victims, aged between 18 and 30, were lured to the facility through Facebook ads promising financial compensation for surrendering their babies. The women were housed, fed, and monitored until childbirth, after which the babies were sold to interested buyers.

NSCDC Commandant Adedotun Keshinro described the operation as a “grievous crime against humanity,” stating that the suspects would be handed over to the police for prosecution. The rescued women would receive support from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) .

The facility’s operators claimed they were helping childless couples and offering alternatives to abortion. However, authorities rejected this justification, emphasizing the exploitation and harm inflicted on the women and babies .

This incident highlights the ongoing issue of baby factories in Nigeria, with at least 200 such facilities shut down in the past six years. Human trafficking linked to baby factories is ranked the third most common crime in Nigeria.  With the actions taken by the mentioned security units , it’s believed that such will drastically drop in occurrence in Nigeria.
