FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Defended the Allocation of Land to Diplomatic Personnel and Investors in Abuja
Wike emphasized that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) doesn’t sell land, but allocates it based on specific conditions and investment proposals.
Wike accused critics of hypocrisy, pointing out that some media organizations currently operating from lands allocated by the FCTA are now complaining about the policy. He cited examples of Channels TV and AIT, which built their headquarters on allocated lands rather than purchasing them privately.
šFULL DETAILS AND REASONS WHY HE HAD TO DEFEND THE ALLOCATED LAND
The minister warned that lands allocated for development must be used as agreed, citing the case of Jabi Lake, where land allocated 20 years ago for entertainment and tourism hubs remained undeveloped and was reclaimed by the government for new investors. Wike emphasized that his administration prioritizes realistic urban development and investment over playing to the gallery.
Wike’s defense of the land allocation policy comes amid criticisms that the FCTA is favoring foreign diplomats and elites over ordinary Nigerians. He maintained that opposition to the policy is emotional and ignores the benefits of attracting investment and promoting development in the capital territory .
