Frustration Mounts as Drivers Lament Slow Construction of NTA–Ngbouba Road in Port Harcourt

Motorists and commercial drivers in Port Harcourt have expressed growing frustration over the slow pace of construction work on the NTA–Ngbouba Road, a major route linking several busy communities in the state capital. The prolonged project, which many residents expected would improve transportation and ease traffic congestion, has instead become a source of hardship for daily commuters and businesses operating along the corridor.

👉 FULL DETAILS AND CONDITION OF THE ROAD

Drivers who ply the route daily complained that the ongoing construction has caused severe traffic delays, increased vehicle maintenance costs, and reduced business productivity. According to several commercial bus operators, the poor condition of the road has led to frequent breakdowns, damaged tires, and rising fuel consumption due to long hours spent in gridlock.
The NTA–Ngbouba Road serves as an important access route for thousands of residents, connecting neighborhoods, schools, markets, and business districts within Rivers State. However, sections of the road currently remain difficult to navigate, especially during periods of rainfall when potholes and muddy surfaces worsen driving conditions.

Many commuters say what should normally be a short journey now takes several hours, affecting workers, students, and traders who rely on the road for their daily activities. Commercial drivers also noted that passengers frequently complain about higher transport fares, which they attribute to the deteriorating road conditions and extended travel time.
Some residents have called on the state government and contractors handling the project to speed up construction efforts and provide regular updates on the project timeline. They argue that the prolonged delay is negatively affecting economic activities in surrounding communities and placing unnecessary stress on road users.

Despite the concerns, some residents acknowledged that road construction projects often come with temporary inconveniences. However, they emphasized that the pace of work must improve to restore public confidence and reduce the suffering experienced by commuters.
As public frustration continues to grow, many road users in Port Harcourt are hoping for swift intervention and faster completion of the NTA–Ngbouba Road project to ease transportation challenges and improve mobility across the city.
