Former Police Inspector Arrested Over Alleged Supply Of Arms To Bandits in Plateau State

The Nigerian Army has apprehended a former police inspector, identified as Danjuma Yusuf, over his alleged involvement in an inter-state arms trafficking network suspected of supplying weapons to terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements operating in Plateau State.

According to reports, the arrest followed credible intelligence received by the military, leading troops to intercept Yusuf’s vehicle at a security checkpoint in Makera, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
During the operation, troops reportedly recovered a cache of items from the vehicle, including two locally fabricated pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, pepper spray, a jackknife, cutlasses, mobile phones, police identification materials, ATM cards, a National Identity Number (NIN) card, and ₦73,300 in cash.
The Nigerian Army stated that preliminary investigations revealed Yusuf may have played a significant role in a wider weapons supply network operating across state boundaries. Authorities believe the network could be connected to the movement of illegal arms used by criminal groups to carry out attacks, kidnappings, and other violent activities.
Yusuf, who was reportedly dismissed from the police service, is currently in military custody as investigations continue. Security operatives are working to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the network, including accomplices, financiers, and those responsible for the supply channels.
The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Nigerian security agencies to disrupt illegal arms trafficking, which remains a major challenge in the fight against insecurity across parts of the country.
Authorities have assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress and more details emerge about the alleged criminal operation.
