Two Feared Dead as Cult Clash Reportedly Rocks Ignatius Ajuru University in Port Harcourt

Tension has reportedly gripped the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, following a suspected cult clash that allegedly left two people dead.
TheĀ incident’s video Ā and reports circulating about the university community, has raised fresh concerns over the safety of students and staff and the growing threat of cult-related violence in parts of Rivers State.

Details surrounding the latest confrontation, including the identities of the victims, the groups allegedly involved and the circumstances that led to the clash, remain unclear. Authorities are yet to publicly confirm the reported death toll at the time of writing.
The development is particularly concerning given previous reports of cult-related violence at the institution. In August 2024, a clash involving suspected members of the Vikings and Iceland cult groups was reported at the university’s Rumuolumeni campus during Students’ Week. While some reports claimed that one person may have died, the university management disputed the fatality and said security personnel intervened to prevent loss of life.

Cult-related violence has also remained a wider security concern in Rivers State, with previous clashes between rival groups resulting in deaths and injuries in Port Harcourt and other communities.Ā  Ā  Ā  The reported incident at Ignatius Ajuru University has therefore renewed calls for stronger security measures, effective monitoring and decisive action against cult activities within and around tertiary institutions.
Students and members of the university community are advised to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information while awaiting an official statement from the university management or security agencies.
