WOW! Why Are You Collecting Money on the Road?” — Nigerian Army Officer Confronts Police Officers

A tense exchange reportedly occurred between a Nigerian Army officer and some police officers after the soldier questioned their alleged collection of money from motorists along a roadway.
In the video  circulating online, the Army officer is seen confronting the police personnel and asking them why they were collecting money from people on the road. His question appeared to challenge the legality and purpose of the roadside collection.

The confrontation attracted attention from motorists and other road users who witnessed the encounter. The soldier’s intervention also sparked discussions online about alleged roadside extortion and the conduct of security personnel at checkpoints.
Roadside collections by security officials have remained a contentious issue in Nigeria, particularly where motorists are allegedly stopped and asked to make payments without clear explanations or official documentation. Such incidents can undermine public confidence in law enforcement and create tension between security agencies and civilians.
However, the circumstances surrounding the particular incident remain unclear. It has not been independently established from the available account whether the money being collected was authorised, what the purpose of the checkpoint was, or whether any disciplinary action followed the confrontation.
The incident’s video  nevertheless highlights the importance of professionalism, transparency and accountability among security personnel. Security agencies are expected to operate within the law while protecting citizens and maintaining public order.
Authorities may need to clarify what transpired if the video is formally reported, especially where allegations of unauthorised collections or misconduct are involved.
